This event is part of “The Social Enterprise Journey”, proudly supported by organizations committed to strengthening business leadership and community impact across Ontario.
What happens when…
…we bring business and community together, and challenge what we think we know about change?
Every day, business owners, nonprofit leaders, and community builders navigate the same tension: how do we grow sustainably while responding meaningfully to the needs of our communities? How do charitable organizations become financially resilient — and how do businesses take on greater social and environmental responsibility?
This event opens a conversation at the intersection of those questions.
We begin with a film that challenges everything we assume about giving and impact.
Then, for those who want to stay, we move into hands-on strategy work.
About the Film
The most persuasive TED Talk of all time — turned into a documentary
Inspired by Dan Pallotta, whose TED Talk on charity has been called the most persuasive ever given, UnCharitable is the first-of-its-kind film that challenges all of our beliefs about giving — re-shuffling old ideas about saints and sinners. Its powerful call-to-action: abandon the sackcloth-and-ashes constraints on nonprofits and give them the freedoms we give to business, so they can change the world.
🌱
What becomes possible when we measure impact differently, and fund change at the scale it deserves
💡
How charitable organizations can function more like businesses — and businesses take on more social responsibility
🤝
Why bringing the business and community sectors together creates impact that neither can achieve alone
Featuring Edward Norton, Dan Pallotta, the founders of Invisible Children, Wounded Warrior Project, Last Mile Health, Charity: Water, and leaders from the Ford Foundation, TED, The Bridgespan Group, The Nature Conservancy, No Kid Hungry, One Love Foundation, YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, United Way of Greater Atlanta, and more.
In honour of Pride Month, proceeds from film ticket sales will support the Rainbow Club of South Georgian Bay Area to support the upcoming Pride Festival and their important advocacy work.

Develop a Theory of Change

A Theory of Change is a strategic framework that helps individuals, organizations, and communities clearly articulate:
the change they are trying to create
why that change matters
and how their actions, programs, services, or business models contribute to that outcome
In simple terms, it helps answer the question:
“If we want to create meaningful impact, what actually needs to happen for that change to occur?”
WHAT YOU’LL WALK AWAY WITH
You’ll leave with more than inspiration — you’ll leave with practical tools, strategic clarity, and a stronger understanding of how to design work that is both impactful and sustainable.
By the end of the experience, you can expect to walk away with:
✔ A foundational understanding of Theory of Change and how it applies to your business, organization, initiative, or community work
✔ A draft Theory of Change framework tailored to your own goals, audience, and impact vision
✔ Greater clarity around the systems, stakeholders, and root causes connected to the work you care about
✔ New ways of thinking about sustainability, community impact, and long-term strategic growth
✔ Practical social innovation tools and frameworks you can continue using with your team
✔ Insight into how impact and revenue can reinforce one another rather than compete
✔ Fresh perspective from cross-sector dialogue and collaborative reflection
✔ New relationships and connections with thoughtful leaders, founders, practitioners, and changemakers across the region
Most importantly, you’ll leave with a renewed sense of possibility and the realization that meaningful systems change does not happen in isolation.
Real tools.
Renewed momentum.
A Theory of Change encourages us to step back and explore:
What change are you actually trying to create — and for whom?
What systems shape the challenges your work is responding to?
How can impact and revenue reinforce one another in your context?
What assumptions are quietly shaping your current strategy?
How do we build work that is financially sustainable and deeply meaningful?
This process helps leaders move from:
reactive →
intentional
good intentions →
measurable impact
scattered effort →
aligned strategy
Whether you are scaling a venture, working in partnership with the business community, or leading nonprofit social/ environmental work, this series will help you think more strategically about the systems around you and your role within them.
