“Changemakers”

Rewriting the Systems That Shape Our Lives

Real stories of people creating meaningful change in how we learn, live, work, heal, and thrive.

An international, co-authored book, bringing together people actively doing the work.

I believe you are a powerful Changemaker

Someone who has looked at the way something has always been done, wondered whether there might be a better way…and has DONE something about it. A system-shifter.

If you find yourself contemplating this invitation, you are someone who has built, challenged, questioned, tested, advocated, invested, led, healed, taught, disrupted, or simply refused to accept that the systems shaping our lives are finished products. I have sent you this invitation personally because I see that in YOU.

You are my colleagues, collaborators, mentors, and friends. Leaders I have learned from, worked beside, watched from across sectors, or had the privilege of connecting with somewhere along my own journey.

And I believe your story belongs in this book.

For nearly two years, I have been thinking about a book called Changemakers.

As my work has carried me into more sectors, more communities, and more rooms where people are wrestling with what comes next, I have felt an increasing urgency around the scale of change we are being asked to make. We are living through real paradigm shifts. Old assumptions are loosening. Institutions are being questioned. Technologies are changing how we live and work. Communities are asking harder questions of the systems they depend on.

There is chaos in that, but in chaos comes extraordinary opportunity.

I have no shortage of gratitude for the people I continue to encounter on my own career expedition toward understanding where my purpose sits within all of this. People who are building, challenging, repairing, redesigning, and sometimes simply refusing to accept that the current way is the only way.

The more of you I meet, the more I understand something else: this work will never really be finished.

Education shapes health. Health shapes economic participation. Housing shapes belonging and stability. Finance determines which ideas and communities receive the resources to grow. Culture shapes what we value and what we can imagine. Technology now runs through nearly every one of these systems. Climate touches all of them.

A more human future will require these systems to speak to one another, and eventually to be designed with one another in mind. And behind the design of every system are people like you.

People like you, making decisions, taking risks, testing new approaches, pushing against inertia, and carrying ideas long before the rest of the world is ready for them.

Those are the stories this book aims to tell.

Partly because the people doing this work deserve to have a light shone on them, and partly because visibility is what can multiply action.

When someone sees how change actually happens, they begin to recognize their own place in it. They see that contribution is not reserved for experts, institutions, or people with enormous platforms. They begin to imagine themselves standing shoulder to shoulder with the people in these pages.

The hope for Changemakers is to document meaningful change while it is still unfolding, and in doing so, help create more of it.

Most changemakers will never see the full impact of what they set in motion. A teacher may never know which moment altered a student’s trajectory. A founder may spend years building an idea whose greatest influence comes after they have stepped away. A community leader may never see the policy, institution, or culture that eventually grows from an early act of courage.

That makes it even more important to document change while it is happening.

To capture the thinking, the resistance, the experiments, the small wins, the wrong turns, and the moments when something begins to move.

The world has no shortage of reasons to feel overwhelmed. What people need more of are examples of hope with evidence behind it. Resilience with scars. Ideas connected to action. People they can recognize themselves in.

Many of us doing this work are also parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, neighbours, and friends. Some are members of younger generations already challenging the rest of us to wake up, pay attention, and move faster. We carry the work into our homes and relationships because the future we are trying to build is personal.

And increasingly, that future requires us to stop treating our systems as separate.

Who Are the Changemakers in This Book?

“Changemakers” will bring together approximately 12-15 invited leaders from across sectors, disciplines, communities, countries, and hopefully even continents.

You may find yourself shoulder-to-shoulder with an educator rethinking what learning can become (hello!), a healthcare leader challenging how we care for people, an investor reconsidering where capital flows, a technologist asking how AI can expand rather than diminish human capability, a founder addressing housing or community development, an artist shaping culture and belonging, a climate leader building community resilience, or a social entrepreneur working across borders.

YOUR CHAPTER

3,000 words…enough to tell a meaningful story (not you’re entire life story). And that is intentional.

Your chapter may begin with a defining moment; a problem you could no longer ignore or a personal experience that changed your direction. From there we find the larger story: What are you working to change, and what have you learned from being inside that change? For some authors, those 3,000 words may stand beautifully on their own, and for others, they may become…

…the seed of something much bigger.

How you will be supported through the writing

Not to worry- you will not be handed a blank Word doc and a deadline.

And you do not need to arrive knowing what your chapter will say. The ~seven-month publishing process has been designed to move authors from idea to a professionally published chapter, with guidance and expert support along the way.

The writing journey:

The publishing and launch journey:

A book about change that will directly fund change.

“Changemakers” is not only a book about change, but the process of creating it will help make change possible.

In 2027, The YOU Power Project is preparing to undertake a school pilot of the Kenyan Youth Empowerment through Entrepreneurship Project (KYEEP).

The approximately six-month pilot is designed to support Kenyan teachers in bringing the country’s Competency-Based Curriculum to life through practical teacher capacity-building, experiential and entrepreneurial learning, ongoing community of practice support, and access to CAP2™ technology that helps make student competency development visible.

At the centre of this work is a belief that education should and must prepare young people for the world outside of the classroom, while also building a learner’s unique capacity to contribute to their communities and to the world.

Two of our three target schools have committed, representing 800+ learners and 40+ teachers. With a third school, we anticipate reaching more than 1,000 learners and approximately 60 educators in our first pilot.

The YOU Power Project is a small Canadian social enterprise with major potential to contribute to the global evolution of education. Meaningful systems change takes people willing to bring their expertise, relationships, and resources to a shared vision.

We're inviting you to build alongside us.
