Episode 12: Empowering At--Risk Youth with Home Horizon

How do we truly empower youth in crisis? This episode of EmpowerED with Jessica Flynn brings you an eye-opening conversation with Pam Osmond, Fund Development Manager at Home Horizon, a transformative organization supporting at-risk youth facing homelessness in the Southern Georgian Bay area. What does Home Horizon do? Home Horizon provides more than just a safe place to stay. Their team of youth workers, caseworkers, outreach workers, and volunteers create a supportive environment where young people can heal, build resilience, and gain the life skills they need to transition into independent living.

A Day in the Life at Home Horizon – There is no "typical" day in a house full of teenagers. Each youth follows their own self-identified path, from attending school or working, to receiving therapy and learning practical skills like budgeting and cooking.

Why Do We Have Homeless Youth? – The reasons are complex: family breakdowns, domestic violence, mental health struggles, addiction, poverty, and systemic barriers all contribute to the growing crisis of youth homelessness. Home Horizon works to address not just the symptoms, but the root causes, helping young people rebuild their futures.

A Holistic Approach to Support – The organization provides mental health counseling, trauma-informed care, education & employment support, and community connection programs like art therapy, yoga, and pet therapy. This episode sheds light on the challenges these young individuals face and how Home Horizon is breaking cycles of instability through empowerment, resilience-building, and long-term solutions.
