Dear Changemaker,

One of the greatest privileges of the work I do is having a front-row seat to people who are building a better future.

This month, those conversations took place in classrooms, boardrooms, conference halls, and across continents. They brought together educators, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, funders, technologists, and young people who are all approaching complex challenges from different perspectives.

Whether we were talking about education reform, youth entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, community development, or systems change, the same realization kept surfacing: none of us can solve today's challenges alone.

The future won't be built by isolated organizations or individual heroes. It will be built by ecosystems; networks of people, ideas, institutions, and communities working together toward something larger than themselves.

Perhaps that's why this month's theme, The Power of Ecosystems, feels so timely.

When we stop asking, "How do I do this?" and begin asking, "Who else belongs in this conversation?" entirely new possibilities begin to emerge.

I hope this issue inspires you to see your own work not as a standalone effort, but as an essential part of a much larger ecosystem of change.

Over the past several years, one question has guided our work:

What if entrepreneurship wasn't simply about starting businesses—but about mobilizing people to create value wherever they are?

That question led to the development of E = MC∞™, our guiding equation:

Entrepreneurship = Mobilized Communities, Forever

At The YOU Power Project, we define entrepreneurship not as a career pathway, but as a way of thinking and contributing. When individuals recognize opportunities, create value for others, and take meaningful action, they don't just transform their own lives—they strengthen the communities around them. As those individuals inspire others to do the same, the impact becomes exponential.

This framework is not based on observation alone. It is grounded in a growing body of research demonstrating that competency-based education, entrepreneurial learning, experiential education, social innovation, and value creation pedagogy develop the very capabilities our rapidly changing world demands: adaptability, agency, collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and purpose.

Our second white paper brings these strands of research together, arguing that the next evolution of education is not simply teaching more content, but making human potential visible through authentic contribution. By aligning entrepreneurial learning with Competency-Based Education and leveraging technology to surface growth over time, we can create learning ecosystems where every learner has the opportunity to discover, and demonstrate, their unique strengths.

What we’re working on (and what it’s shifting)

Entrepreneurial Mentorship

Through the Small Business Enterprise Centres in Simcoe County, Barrie, and Bruce County, I've had the privilege of mentoring entrepreneurs through the Summer Company and Starter Company programs. Every founder arrives with a different idea, but the real transformation happens as they build confidence, connect with mentors, and become part of a larger entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Social Innovation Fellow in Action

This fall, I'll be supporting the Youth Climate Action Conference, helping young people move from concern to action as they explore local solutions to global challenges. I'll also be co-facilitating the RentSafe Owen Sound Climate Resiliency Roundtable, bringing together public health professionals, housing providers, environmental experts, municipal leaders, legal advocates, and community organizations to explore how we can strengthen climate resilience for low-income renters.

While these initiatives address very different challenges, they share a common belief: The most resilient communities aren't built by one organization working harder—they're built by ecosystems working together.

In Phoenix and Maine, I had the privilege of joining conversations with global leaders exploring new approaches to financing women changemakers and strengthening community impact. While the contexts were different, the questions were remarkably familiar: How do we build systems that unlock more human potential?

The Social Innovation Community of Practice

What happens after the workshop ends?

That's the question we've been exploring through the Social Innovation Community of Practice (CoP)—an initiative of the Community Impact Lab Network, designed to support practitioners long after the initial learning experience.

This month, we welcomed our first participants with an interactive three-hour session that brought together nonprofit leaders, municipal staff, educators, entrepreneurs, and community builders from across Ontario. While everyone arrived with different challenges, they quickly discovered something powerful: many were asking the same questions.

This fall, that conversation continues.

Members will come together for drop-in, bi-weekly Community of Practice sessions to explore emerging challenges, share tools and resources, learn from one another, and strengthen their capacity to create lasting community impact. Rather than focusing on theory alone, the CoP is designed as a living learning ecosystem where ideas are tested, relationships are built, and innovation happens collaboratively.

Social innovation for community impact isn't something we master in a single workshop- it takes practice.

And like any meaningful practice, it grows stronger when we learn together.

On the Speaking Circuit

This August, I'm honoured to keynote the 5th International Conference on Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2026 in Toronto, joining educators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovation leaders from around the world to explore the future of entrepreneurship, competitiveness, and innovation.

Every speaking invitation is an opportunity to do more than share ideas—it's an opportunity to bring people together, spark meaningful conversations, and equip leaders with practical tools to create lasting change.

Map Your Ecosystem

We often spend so much time thinking about what we need to accomplish that we forget to ask who could help make it possible. It's a mindset beautifully captured in the book “Who Not How”, which challenges us to stop asking "How do I do this?" and instead ask, "Who can help us achieve this together?"

This month, take ten minutes to sketch your ecosystem.

Ask yourself:

• Who energizes and challenges my thinking?

• What organizations share a similar purpose but approach it differently?

• Where are the gaps in my network?

• Who have I been meaning to reconnect with?

• What conversation could create value for everyone involved?

The strongest ecosystems aren't built by chance—they're cultivated through intentional relationships.

One connection. One collaboration. One shared idea at a time.

This month, don't just grow your work. Grow your ecosystem.

Your Next Breakthrough

Your Next Level Won't Be Built Alone- Tag Me in to Map Your Next Moves

The opportunities emerging today, from education transformation to community innovation, are simply too complex for any one person or organization to solve alone. They require shared vision, complementary strengths, and the courage to invite others into the process.

Often, the breakthrough isn't another strategy, but the right partnership, the right conversation, and a healthy ecosystem.

If your organization is entering a season of growth, strategic planning, systems change, or collaboration, this may be the perfect time to step back and ask not just what comes next, but who should help shape what's next.

Whether through strategic facilitation, keynote speaking, leadership development, or systems design, I love helping organizations connect the dots, align around a shared vision, and build the relationships that turn good ideas into lasting impact.

Closing Message

Something Nature Has Understood All Along

We often celebrate the visible outcomes: a successful venture, a policy change, a thriving community initiative. But those outcomes are almost always the product of something much less visible: relationships built over time.

Nature has understood this all along. A forest is not simply a collection of trees. It is a living network of exchange. Trees share nutrients through unseen fungal networks. Diverse species strengthen one another's resilience. The health of the whole depends on the wellbeing of each part.

Human systems are no different.

The greatest challenges of our time (education, climate resilience, housing, wellbeing, economic opportunity) will not be solved by better organizations working in isolation, but by building and nurturing stronger ecosystems that allow knowledge, resources, trust, and leadership to flow where they are needed most.

Therefore, the work is not to become indispensable ourselves, but to help create conditions where others can thrive.

If we can build ecosystems that unlock the potential already present in people and communities, the impact won't stop with us…it will continue long after we're gone.

And I can't imagine a better legacy than that.
